After A Drought Year, NorthStar Promises The Best Carving Tahoe Has Ever Seen!

The location has been selected.  The invitations have gone out.  It's official!  NorthStar in Lake Tahoe will host CARVE, an international snow sculpting event from Feb. 7th - 23rd, 2013.

Children young and old will stand in awe of these delicate masterpieces wondering how the teams of artists bear to work throughout the night, in the freezing cold, to mold enormous blocks of snow into these magical images.  Snow carving is not a hobby for the faint of heart, the meek, or really - the sane!  It requires tireless dedication year round.  These artists juggle families and careers, haul heavy tools around the world, to compete - not for riches, not for fame, not even for a lasting example of their work - but solely to delight themselves, and the spectators that watch them, with the wonderment of their creations.

As you can expect, the process to even get ready is long and arduous.  First thing you need is snow...20 tons of it for each block!  This is a huge effort on the part of the snow park - and you - if you should choose to participate in the "stomp" (check back here, and on our website for details and timing of the snow stomping event).  The artists plan the design, coordinate travel, tools, and contemplate all the unexpected obstacles that may arise.  And we, the event producers?  That same devotion the artists pay to their craft - we pay to the party! Yes, it will be two, long, arduous weeks of partying like rock stars in North Lake Tahoe's temporary land of enchantment.

We will be announcing the selection of teams within the next month.  In the meantime, we are happy to announce that Coors, Finlandia, Subaru and Columbia Sportswear have joined us as sponsors to bring this inaugural event to NorthStar.
